France's Premier Quits Following Under One Month Amid Extensive Backlash of New Ministers
France's political turmoil has deepened after the freshly installed PM dramatically resigned within a short time of appointing a cabinet.
Quick Exit Amid Political Instability
SÃĐbastien Lecornu was the third premier in a single year, as the nation continued to move from one political crisis to another. He stepped down hours before his initial ministerial gathering on Monday afternoon. The president approved his resignation on Monday morning.
Strong Criticism Regarding New Government
France's leader had faced strong opposition from rival parties when he presented a recent administration that was virtually unchanged since last recent ousting of his preceding leader, François Bayrou.
The proposed new government was dominated by the president's political partners, leaving the cabinet largely similar.
Political Reaction
Rival groups said the prime minister had reversed on the "significant change" with earlier approaches that he had promised when he assumed office from the unfavored Bayrou, who was ousted on September 9th over a proposed budget squeeze.
Next Government Course
The question now is whether the national leader will decide to dissolve parliament and call another sudden poll.
The National Rally president, the president of the far-right leader's political movement, said: "There cannot be a reestablishment of order without a fresh vote and the parliament's termination."
He added, "Evidently the president who decided this cabinet himself. He has understood nothing of the current circumstances we are in."
Election Demands
The opposition movement has demanded another poll, believing they can increase their seats and role in the assembly.
The nation has gone through a phase of turmoil and political crisis since the president called an indecisive sudden poll last year. The legislature remains split between the main groups: the progressive side, the far right and the central bloc, with no clear majority.
Financial Pressure
A financial plan for next year must be approved within weeks, even though parliamentary groups are at loggerheads and his leadership ended in barely three weeks.
Opposition Motion
Factions from the progressive side to far right were to hold discussions on the start of the week to decide whether or not to support to oust the prime minister in a no-confidence vote, and it appeared that the administration would collapse before it had even begun operating. The prime minister apparently decided to resign before he could be dismissed.
Cabinet Appointments
Nearly all of the major ministerial positions revealed on Sunday night remained the identical, including the justice minister as legal affairs leader and arts and heritage leader as culture minister.
The responsibility of economy minister, which is crucial as a split assembly struggles to agree on a financial plan, went to the president's supporter, a presidential supporter who had previously served as business and power head at the start of Macron's second term.
Surprise Selection
In a shocking development, a longtime Macron ally, a presidential supporter who had served as financial affairs leader for an extended period of his term, came back to cabinet as military affairs head. This angered politicians across the spectrum, who considered it a signal that there would be no challenging or alteration of the president's economic policies.
