One-time National Football League star Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an attempted murder accusation stemming from a shooting that happened in May, with his lawyer entering a not guilty declaration on his behalf.

Detention documents in Essex, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his transfer to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the National Football League, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being arrested in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an email that he has previously filed a written innocent declaration to the murder attempt allegation. Brown could be in a Miami court as soon as Wednesday early for a bond proceeding, Eiglarsh added.

According to his arrest warrant, Brown is accused of grabbing a pistol from a protection employee after a public figure fighting contest in May and shooting a couple of shots at a man he had fought with before. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that a bullet grazed his nape.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was obliged to take were exclusively in self-protection against the reported person’s violent behavior. Brown was attacked that time and acted within his legal entitlement to defend himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not promptly detained because originally authorities did not recognize Nantambu as a target. It not until later in May that Nantambu provided a complete testimony about the event to officers and named Brown as the gunman, the report says.
