The loved ones of young people unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a venue in a Swiss alpine town are facing an agonising wait for answers and pleading for any details about their family members online.

The blaze devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of January 1st. Circulated images reveal the roof structure igniting as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Authorities have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the fatalities of the disaster, which killed 40 people and injured another scores more.
